A "Staple Length" EPD of +7.4mm!!!!  An EPD for shear weight that adds almost a pound to his progeny! This Don Juan son takes after his daddy!!!  Before alpaca EPD's were even a vision, Magical Farms had long used Don Juan as a specialist in adding staple length while maintaining fineness and shear weight.  Now Juan Colorado is carrying on (and bettering) this valuable characteristic.  Juan Colorado was born to our best production dam, Juanita.  No slouch herself, with an 8 lb shear weight and an outstanding cria every year!  Juanita has EPD's for micron of -0.7, staple length of +5.2mm and fleece weight of +0.9 lbs.  Wait a minute!  Maybe Juan Colorado takes after his mommy!  Either way, his ribbon winning fleece is spectacular, not only for it's fineness and staple length, but also for it's brightness, staple structure, handle and my favorite big-bold-shiny crimp.  

Just in case you're wondering, yes, the fleece statistics below are really accurate.  Yes, his 2 year old fleece is actually better than his yearling fleece!!!

We just started breeding Juan Colorado this fall as a young 2 year old.  He only had 2 chances to breed, to different dams who each conceived at the first breeding.  Thus, earning Juan Colorado the dubious nic-name of "One and Done Juan".  This boy is one we'd rather keep.
